Goldsby is a fast-growing town in the northeast corner of McClain County. The census counted 1,801 residents in 2010 and 2,694 in 2020, an increase of roughly half in ten years. Addresses use ZIP code 73093, and most children attend Washington Public Schools, with portions of town in the Norman, Newcastle and Blanchard districts.
Interstate 35 crosses the north and east sides of town at exits 101, 104 and 106. Riverwind Casino stands on State Highway 9, David Jay Perry Airport serves private pilots, and the Canadian River marks the line with Cleveland County.
Goldsby’s storm history is hard to ignore. On May 24, 2011, an EF4 tornado with winds estimated at 200 mph tracked 23 miles through Grady and McClain counties and destroyed two brand-new homes along SH-74B before lifting west of Goldsby, according to the National Weather Service.
More recently, an EF2 on February 26, 2023, wrecked hangars and damaged 15 airplanes at David Jay Perry Airport, the Purcell Register reported, before moving into Norman. NWS records show another EF2 passing north-northwest of town on April 27, 2024.
