Bethany is an Oklahoma County city of 20,831 residents at the 2020 census, with ZIP code 73008. It was founded on July 28, 1909, as a community for members of the Church of the Nazarene and incorporated on August 8, 1910. The college started there became Southern Nazarene University.
The 39th Street Expressway, part of historic Route 66, runs through downtown. Lake Overholser and the Stinchcomb Wildlife Refuge mark the west edge of town, and Warr Acres borders it on the east.
Bethany’s population grew quickly after World War II, so roofs here cover houses built across many decades. Each era brings its own decking, ventilation and flashing details to check before new shingles go on.
Severe weather is part of Bethany’s history. On November 19, 1930, an F4 tornado killed 23 people and destroyed 652 buildings here, one of only three documented violent November tornadoes in Oklahoma since 1900.
The city’s permit fee schedule lists a roofing permit and a roofing contractor registration. We confirm Bethany’s current requirements before any tear-off starts.
