With 58,409 residents at the 2020 census, Midwest City is the eighth-largest city in Oklahoma. It lies in Oklahoma County along I-40 just north of Tinker Air Force Base, and its homes carry ZIP codes 73110, 73130 and 73140.
W.P. “Bill” Atkinson bought land here after hearing an air depot might be built nearby, and the city incorporated on March 11, 1943. Its streets followed a plan by Seward Mott of the Federal Housing Administration, which made Midwest City a model for postwar suburbs. That means many neighborhoods are full of houses from the 1940s and 1950s, which can hide old decking and stacked layers of shingles.
Severe weather has hit this city more than once. On May 3, 1999, the tornado that devastated south Oklahoma City caused high-end F4 damage in Midwest City and took three lives. On May 8, 2003, an F4 tornado crossed Tinker Air Force Base and I-40 into southeast Midwest City on its way to Choctaw.
We work all over town, near Midwest City High School and Carl Albert High School, around Joe B. Barnes Regional Park and the John Conrad Regional Golf Course, and along the revitalized SE 29th Street corridor by Town Center Plaza.
Income-qualified owners may want to look at the city’s Primary Systems Home Repair Program, a grant through Midwest City Grants Management that lists roof replacement and repair among eligible work. Midwest City’s building pages do not state a reroofing rule, so we confirm current permit requirements with the city before starting.
